Shield

How it works

 

A Shield is a component that is added to the Arduino to increase the capability. You can compare it to adding RAM to a computer to speed it up, or even an internet connection to laptop. 

 

 

How it works:

By adding multiple components to the Arduino, it opens the capability to do many different types of task.  For example, you can turn your Arduino into a Wi-Fi Talking Stephen Hawking! All you need is to combine an Arduino Uno with a Voice Box Shield, and a WiFly Shield. Since the hardware aspect is done, you will need to program your Arduino to have all the components to work.  The code for this can be found at Sparkfun's website.
